Here’s the details:
Moderately well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. Staging has not been completed yet.
Plenty of good information about the disease: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/colon-and-rectal
The statistics on colorectal cancer are not very good. It kills roughly about 30% of the people who are diagnosed with it. That sounds really bad, but there is a key point that is not evident from the general statistics. When detected early (like mine), the 5 year survival rate is over 90%. The survival rate drops dramatically if not detected early as this type of cancer has a bad habit of metastasizing and becoming established elsewhere in the body.
Message: get checked, especially if you are over 50 or have a history. Don’t let fear keep you from getting screened.
